A proper Southern Italian city worth every minute
Bari has so much more to it than I thought. The old town is a maze of tiny streets and it's easy to get lost, but that's half the fun. Fresh orecchiette from the ladies on the street was genuinely one of the best things I've eaten in years.
Great city for a long weekend
Bari Vecchia is the kind of old town that actually feels lived-in, not just polished up for tourists. People hanging out, laundry on the lines, real local food. The seafront promenade is lovely for an evening walk and the focaccia barese is absolutely worth trying.
Loved the food and the sea views
Came mostly for the food and the coast and it did not disappoint. The fish and seafood here is so fresh, especially around the old port area. Lungomure is beautiful, the city feels relaxed and not overcrowded at all. Really good value for money too.

If you want a taste of southern Italy without fighting through tour groups, Bari is a solid pick. The Basilica di San Nicola is stunning and the streets around it are full of local life. Focaccia and raw seafood at the market - absolute must.
The old town alone makes this trip worth it
Bari Vecchia is unlike any old town I've seen. It's tight, loud, full of locals and smells amazing from all the baking. Walked around for hours and never got bored. The Basilica is gorgeous and the surrounding piazza is a great spot to just sit and take it all in.
Underused gem on the Adriatic coast
The beaches near Bari are clean and the water is incredibly clear. Pane e pomodoro beach right in the city is popular with locals and easy to reach. No big resort crowds, just real people enjoying the sea. The city itself is easy to explore on foot.
